Supporting transparency in the retail supply chain is something we take seriously. Consumers are becoming more conscious about what their products are made of, where it is produced, how it is made and by whom. I’m excited to be introducing you to the people behind the brands at Ballettonet.co over the next few months, in a series entitled ‘Meet the makers’.
This month we talk to Ilaria Del Prete, cool hunter and shoe designer for Clutch Ballerina. Ilaria shares with us where she gets her inspiration, her top picks for travelling around Italy with friends and loved ones and what to do when in Naples.
We think she is one talented woman and believe she has a very bright future ahead. We love her designs in the Clutch Ballerina range, and wish we could stock them all! Browse the current styles available here.
Did you know you always wanted to follow this career? When did you start developing an interest in fashion design?
I'm a cool hunter, a person whose job is to make observations or predictions about new styles and trends, and I'm responsible for the style of Clutch Ballerina.
As my family is the owner of the footwear company I developed this passion since I was a child.
If you were taking a holiday with friends in Italy, which city would you go to and where would you stay?
I would choose Santa Maria Di Castellabate (SA).
For you, what are the 5 must see places/things in Naples?
Must see places to visit include Pebliscito Square, the Napoli Sotterranea - a labyrinth of caves, tunnels, and passageways 40m underground, the Historical Center, the coastal area of Mergellina and attend a concert or tour the San Carlo theatre.
Is there a particular festival in Italy that you love?
The Giffoni Film Festival in Valle Piana (SA). The Festival is the largest children’s film festival in Europe. It takes place in the little Italian town of Giffoni Valle Piana in Campania, Southern Italy, close to Salerno and Naples.
If you were to take a romantic break with your partner, where will you travel to in Italy and do you have a dream hotel you’d love to stay at?
I would travel to the Amalfi Coast and stay at the Saraceno Grand Hotel.
Can you suggest any favourite shops that is a hidden gem from tourists?
Trip, in Martucci 64 in Napoli, is a concept store that selects the most unique items so that they have the spirit of a gift brought from a long journey. Not only that, the store can also be booked for its event space.
Do you have a favourite restaurant in Italy?
Everytime I'm in Milan for business I eat at "Novecento" Restaurant. In my opinion it is the best in Italy.
What part of Italy really inspires you and your designs?
I love the sea and the sea inspires me for the Clutch collection. Particularly Amalfi, Positano and Vietri.
